A crazy idea
I came up with a crazy idea earlier. I've already related it to the gang on the GSFF, but nonetheless I think I should write it up here as well, or this place will never see any use. Such is the course of my laziness - it may seem interesting one second, then I push it off after a while and never touch it again. But I digress...
Alrighty. My favourite fandom, Golden Sun, is running rife with Sues and bad!fic, just like everywhere else on Fanfiction.net. A large majority of these seem to focus on new, made-up elements, based on the planets in the Solar system that haven't already been converted to forms of elemental power. Everywhere, you get the evil offspring of Satan more commonly referred to as Mary Sues and Gary Stus coming in, waving around their flashy fake powers, have their lust object fall at their feet, angst for a while and then bugger off. The moment anyone with any sense sees either Sol or Luna in a fic then they immediately hit the Backspace key and try their luck once more. Especially me. I don't think I've seen a 'new element' fic that hasn't me made want to spork the living heck out of anything moving around me. As an extra note, I poke it with a stick if it doesn't move. Ahem.
Getting to the point of this little rant...
I was thinking about the storyline of Tales of Symphonia, which I completed a few days ago. After a moment my mind drifted over to the world of Weyard as I started plotting out Project Psynergy once again. However, my interest was plucked from this by a new thought which embedded itself firmly in the forefront of my hazy mind and said 'WRITE ME, WRITE ME!' It just happened to be a possible Golden Sun 3 fic, but with a twist - it takes on the idea of Tales of Symphonia.
How it works is this... Weyard is one of two worlds that coexist with each other constantly. They are at the same place at the same time, but they are separated by an immaterial barrier that is 'nearly' impossible to cross. I say nearly because of something I'll relate to in a moment. Anyway, these two worlds share the same source of Alchemy - the Golden Sun. When one has this, it gets rich in the bathing light of Alchemy. However, the other side immediately begins to lose it's Alchemy and goes into decline. To the Tales of Symphonia players - see the similarities here? These worlds have different kinds of elements, however - similar and stemming from the same source, but with their own distinct differences. This is where the new elements come in - Weyard has Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter; the as-yet unnamed world has Saturn (Wind), Neptune (Water), Luna (Earth), and Sol (Fire). Now that the Golden Sun is back on Weyard, these other elements are beginning to decay, and Alchemy is fleeing that world.
I haven't really gone from there storywise - this is just the concept. But the reason for me saying this all is because maybe, just maybe, it is possible to incorporate new elements into the story without completely raping canon like the Sues do. I'd be riding some very fine lines, and I'm completely aware that the story could easily destroy itself. I'm not saying that I'm actually going to go ahead with it - this just sort of came to me, and I thought I'd share it. If someone else wants to try their luck, or even work on this story with me, then by all means be my guest. It'll be like the now-abandoned Sue Project that Traek came up with a while back, only without the Sues and it isn't a bad!fic.
So yeah, commentary on this idea would be appreciated.

In other news relating to my writing, Project Psynergy Chapter 3 was released yesterday. And there was much rejoicing. I'm already shooting through Chapter 4 at crazy speeds - I'm on a roll. I'll have Chapter 4 up before I go away to Europe for six weeks, and maybe even Chapter 5 if I keep this up.
On the Eternal Skies front, business is slow. I'll get there eventually, however. I've sort of diverted my attention over to Project Psynergy, since a recent vote on the GSFF made that out to be more popular and pined for than my precious, precious original. Give me some time - with patience comes rewards. Or something along those lines that sounds undeniably cool. I also got new Eternal Skies fanart for my birthday - tell me if you want to see and I'll put up a link in my next update.

That about wraps it up. Jake out, and I'll have more to talk about soon enough.
